We all want a simple solution. We are all looking for the right guide or path that will tell us exactly what to do, how to do it, when to do it and as a result become successful at whatever field we aspire to lead in. The fact of the matter is that if this was true then essentially, we would all be robots simply following a set list of results and getting the same outcomes.
In order to truly succeed, to truly surpass yourself and others around you, you have to be experimental you have to challenge the status quo, you have to try something new. Christopher Columbus didn’t accept that the world was flat, he set out to do something that had never been done before and he succeeded.
We don’t all need to change the world to make a success of ourselves, we just need to find a way of going about our business that allows us to stand apart from the competition and the best way to do that is to try something new.
If you start in a new job or a new career or even a franchise then at the very beginning you might shadow someone or have a mentor. This person might show you around the office, where you can get the stationary, where you can get a cup of tea and so on. They might also show you the basics of how to go about your day to day job.
A lot of organisations call it an induction, where they “sheep dip”you into the mindset and values so you can develop your understanding of the organisation based on the areas that are relevant to your position and to the customer you serve, be that internal or external.
After a while, you are expected to start branching out on your own and experimenting, taking your own personality and skill sets to the role and making your own decisions. Each and every person is different everyone has a huge set of individual values that can be brought to the table, with very different results. As such, this means that everyone experiments with new ideas to get the task completed. Some may be more efficient, some may be a complete failure but without ever actually taking that chance and having the guts to try something new you will never know.
”Each and every person is different everyone has a huge set of individual values that can be brought to the table”
Google is known to encourage its employees to be creative and experiment with their own projects. They see this as an important factor in keeping their work force motivated, but it also serves another purpose. Google relies on innovation to be a trail blazer and remain at the forefront of the market place. If one Google employee each year experiments and succeeds with a new way of doing business then that is a bonus for Google.
When you are a small home business owner, standing still is never effective. Something that works today and produces results is fantastic and you should capitalize on that situation. But business and the Internet is a living, breathing, ever changing entity that one day smiles at you and the next day turns its back on you. Never rest on your laurels. Just because something works today, it does not mean that it will work forever, it doesn’t even mean it will work tomorrow.
When you find something that works for your business, experiment to see how you can take it to the next level. The internet allows you to change minute details, test those amendments and see the results almost immediately. Constiniously try something new and constantly tweak and test your results.
All the major sports teams throughout the world will have specific coaches that analyze every aspect of the game. Regardless of victory or defeat, the coaches will analyze performance and make suggestions to trial in training and in live environments. The champions of the world are champions of the world because they were the best at what they do at a certain period of time. Champions never sit still because they know that hot on their heels are hungry and passionate sportsmen that want their crown and will do anything to get it.
Your business needs to be flexible and be able to adapt to change, like a chameleon adapts to its’ surroundings. You may experience a level of success over a short period of time but times change, business changes, consumer focus can shift radically over night.
You may not think you have the time or the finances to be experimental and if that is the case then start small! Constantly seek out new information and strive to understand what is behind the failure or success of specific initiatives. Try something new today, test ideas methodically and examine the results to look for the most effective way to sell, market and manage your small home business for success.
