Why Will No One Subscribe to This Blog?

Great question and it is one that I hear bloggers and small business owners utter all the time! In fact, this is fast becoming a big problem for many blog owners. For example, people often say to me, “I have created some great content, but still no one will subscribe to this blog. What should I do?”

First things first, don’t panic it’s very rare that a blog goes from zero to hero overnight – it takes time to build up an audience.

Reasons Why No One will subscribe:

  • Your content is out dated and not relevant
  • There are broken links or images are not displaying correctly.
  • No one knows your blog is there
  • There is no clear benefit as to why someone should subscribe to this blog
  • There is no indication that anyone else is subscribed
  • There are adverts everywhere

If one or more of the above reasons apply to you, don’t worry there are ways and means of fixing them to improve your subscription rate.

But first let me add that getting a truck load of subscribers is not going to happen overnight. It will take hard work and dedication, coupled with a good understanding of your target demographic and quality content that speaks to them directly. All of which I will go into in a minute.

It is true that time waits for no man, but when starting a blog don’t expect results too soon. It is great to have goals and targets and to constantly strive to beat those goals but get to understand the lay of the land.

What to do If No One Will Subscribe to Your Blog

1. Know Your Target Demographic Inside Out.

I find myself saying this time and time again but if you want to get targeted subscribers to your blog and newsletters then you need to  know exactly who that target audience is. The more you know about them, the easier it is to provide compelling content that speaks to their needs.

Speak your Audience’s Language

The best way to establish rapport with your audience is to reflect that you have heard the other person. In conversation this is known as Active Listening and often involves repeating back in your own words or theirs, what the other person said to demonstrate your attention and understanding.

E.g. you may be reading this post because you want to get more people to subscribe to your blog, or signup for your newsletter. You may have asked yourself the question “why will no one subscribe to my blog?” If you have then you want to find out tips, tricks or methods to help you increase your subscribe rate. Correct?

Make it Easy to Find

subscribe to this blogLearn why SEO for Blogs is important. Post content that is optimised for search engines. In other words, have plenty of key words that your audience might use to search for product and services like yours. (As discussed in the example above) This is the same as for any web content and there is some good advice on how to use the Google Key word tool to analyse the best key words to get targeted traffic by clicking on the link.

Make it Even Easier to Find

So the optimized content has been posted on your blog. Great, eventually the search spiders will come along and index it for you. In the mean time you should be promoting your blog content throughout your social media following, on related websites and through blog commenting. Don’t just sit back and wait, make it happen!

Create Trust

If you believe your audience is finding your post or content, then you have to ask if your readers trust you. People won’t subscribe to your mailing list or your blog if they do not trust you or your business. So provide plenty of opportunity for your audience to add their own content through commenting on your blog or checking out your social media following and other places where you are active on line. By giving your audience this access they will see social signals that suggest that your brand can be trusted.

Ask for the Subscription

No one likes being sold to, unless you are a sales person yourself and you appreciate the techniques being used. Make it clear what it is your audience are supposed be doing. Are they supposed to be adding their name and email address to a captcha box? Then tell them! Is your audience supposed to share your content and follow you on social media? Tell them! Is your audience supposed to give their opinion by adding a comment? Tell them!

It goes without saying, but fundemental to knowing how to blog effectively is producing posts that are relevant and interesting. The best posts on Facebook and certainly Twitter will be short, funny and/or intriguing. Throughout this site you will also see reference to the use of photos or video to create interest for your business. That is because it works!
