How to Unlock the mystery behind Key Words

What are Key words?

Key words are the words or phrases that people use to search for a website that will provide them the answer to their question. The quantity and quality of these terms as used on a website can help search engines to determine the relevance of a website to the key words. The greater the value the search engines deems the website, the higher up the page the website or blog can appear in the search engine results. The higher the better!

When an internet user is searching for information, they type in a word or phrase that makes the most sense to them. For example someone looking for a take away pizza in Dallas may type “Pizza in Dallas”into Google’s search bar.

The websites or information that Google finds, such as addresses and phone numbers, news articles or social media sites, that Google feels are most relevant to that search term are then given on the search results page.

How Do I find relevant Key words?

Key word research can be done to find out what key words are most commonly used for a specific site or topic. By using these key words in a relevant context a web owner can tailor the content to focus on what the brand believes is most important to its target audience.

There are various tools available to help you determine what the best key words are to use for your website. These tools show the level of demand for each keyword and can assist in ensuring that the selected key words have the greatest likelihood of providing positive return on investment.

When picking your key words, it’s best to be as specific as possible. The more specific the key word, the less likely there will be competition from other websites for high search engine ranking results from the same keyword. For example “Take Out Pizza in Dallas”might result in far less competition than “Pizza in Dallas”or “Take Out in Dallas”or even “Take Out Pizza”

How Do I use Key words?

First thing to remember is that just by mentioning the key word does not mean that you will rank well. You have to understand exactly what the search engine spiders look for in order to decipher what a piece of content is about. If you don’t make it easy for them with good On Page Search Engine Optimization then the spiders will simply move off to the next website giving your site a poor ranking.

Some quick tips

1. Make sure that your key words are in your title

2. Don’t over use your key words or key word phrases by using them to often which is known as key word stuffing.

3. Label images by giving them an “Alt text”that describes what they are to the search spider.

Don’t expect the identification of your key words and submission of your pages to the search engines to result in a huge wave of traffic to your blog or website over night. As with anything this process takes time. Many of the search engines take a number of weeks to process your submission. Second, some search engines rank based on a number of factors other than key words including site popularity.
