  • Short Paragraphs Work Best.

One of the downsides of the internet is that people’s attention span while on the internet is short. There is always something else to do, a video to watch, images to browse. When writing your content you need to keep this in mind.

Long paragraphs confuse people. The words and phrases get jumbled on the screen, and it becomes hard work to read. This can force the reader to move on to the next paragraph, or even leave the site entirely, without grasping the full context.

Don’t be afraid to use paragraphs that are a single sentence.

  • Grab You Reader by the…….

The first task you face as a blog writer is grabbing the attention of browsers with your headline. If your headline does not grab them by the short and curlies and inject curiosity, then all the effort you put into your blog content will be a waste of time.

Use statements and questions that utilize the keywords that people are searching for. Provide titles and headers that clearly describe your posts’ content and be concise.

  • Use Numbers or Bullets to help the flow

Numbers and bullets help a point or key idea stand out making it easier for the reader to digest and remember. By using bullets it shows the reader the size of the information they need to digest and also helps highlighting the obvious place to start reading from if the reader gets confused or loses their place.

Format your bullets and numbers with indentations so that it breaks up your words and stops it being one huge block of intimidating text.

  • Divide Your Page with Sub Headings

Using sub headings will make it easier for the reader to move on from one point to another with a nice smooth transition, meaning the reader will keep their focus and the point you are making.

  • The Tortoise and the Hare

Everyone knows the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. When writing your blog posts don’t explode out of the gate with all your key points at the beginning and finish with a whimper. Be consistent from start to finish and you will win the race to capture your readers’ minds.

Break up your key points by using real life situations or stories that can be adopted to suit the tone of the post. Use powerful descriptions and metaphors to drive home your ideas like a head shot from Mike Tyson.

Using stories and metaphors makes it easier for the reader to imagine what you are talking about, which makes the readers’ experience more pleasurable and enjoyable.

  • The Power of Numbers

Using relevant facts and figures helps because it shows the reader that you have researched your topic and therefore provides an air of authority. Secondly, by using numbers you are engaging the reader to think about the true size of something or the exact opposite.

For example; Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea or 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Which do you think is better? For me it is obvious, just look at the way the numbers jump out of the page. Or is that just my inner mathematician coming out?

Statistics and numbers really help drill down a point. Fact!
