Highly Effective People Know This, Do You?

Highly effective people know that being successful in today’s digital age is about more than just being clever communicators; it is about setting a benchmark that some people will measure themselves against and others will aspire to.

highly effective peopleIn any industry it is the highly effective people that get the first bite of the cherry, the cherry being the opportunity. If they don’t want it they either pass it on to somebody in their circle or the opportunity moves down the line to the next person of influence.

People who do not grasp this concept would be lucky to just receive the stone once all the juicy flesh of the opportunity had been consumed. That’s not to say that those people are any less capable of maximizing the potential of the opportunity, what it means is that they are not positioned in a way to command the opportunity.

How to command the opportunity

Simple, raise your profile! Show everyone what you are capable of, highlight your subject expertise, become the “go to” person. The best way to do this is to start your own blog and here are the reasons why.

Highly effective people

If you are in business then a blog is a great way for you to highlight your expertise. Above all, it allows you to show your enthusiasm and passion in whatever industry or niche you work in. If you are a financial advisor you could use your blog to highlight changes in legislation that could impact clients, and provide them with a list of steps the clients would need to take in order comply. If you are a plumber you could write a post about how to stop a leaking tap. By showing your expertise and adding value to your clients and customers you will stick in their mind as the “go to” person on that particular subject.

  • Encourages Conversation

The beauty of a blog is that it is a two way form of communication. It is not a brochure or a catalogue. A blog is about engaging with and developing a community of people who share in your interests and want to learn more about you. The best way to do that is through conversation and providing content that stimulates interest. If you can do that then people will start talking and ultimately sharing your content, which leads me on the next point…

  • Raises Your Profile

Your content is stimulating interest and is being shared all over the internet. Fantastic! That means that more and more people will get to know about you and providing you continue to generate insightful content then this will have a cyclical effect and your brand will grow.

  • Lets People Know the Real You

It is not every day you get to spend time sharing your thoughts with business partners, employees, clients and prospects alike. If you have a blog and promote it well then this is exactly what you can do! The power of a blog should not be over looked.

Sharing your thoughts and ideas with all to see, changes the whole dynamic of the business relationship. The reader becomes a part of something bigger. They become a member of a community. If we work on the principle that people buy people first and that businesses and opportunities are built by people, then having a community of people can only be good for business.

  • Positions You Ahead of Your Competition.

Highly effective people

There are very few company blogs and even fewer good company blogs. Look at your direct competitors, do they have company blogs? If you sit down and think about the message you want to deliver via your blog and keep posting relevant and quality content, then your blog can give you the competitive edge needed.

  • Brings You Into Contact with Other Highly Effective People

Success Breeds Success and once you have established yourself online and got your name on Google for your industry then people will find you. Instead of being the hunter you become the hunted. People will want to get to know you, sharing their ideas and the opportunities that before were out of reach.

By now I hope you realise that if you are not online you are not connected. If you are not connected, people can’t find you. If people can’t find you then opportunities are missed.

Your reward for starting a blog? Rich, enduring friendships. Trustworthy transactions. Compelling leadership. And amongst today’s mass of competition for opportunity and advancement, a very distinguishing brand that only highly effective people have!
