Dream Lives for Sale – Is There Such A Thing?
I found myself asking this question the other day as there is a popular Sky One program called Dream lives for Sale. This program follows people as they research moving abroad, buying a business and, in the process, hoping to buy their “Dream”lifestyle to go with it.
This is a great idea in theory, however in practice there is a lot more to consider: Language, Culture, working all day long instead of enjoying the dream lifestyle you have moved abroad for… the list can go on.
Selling up everything and moving abroad can be a big risk in itself, but when you decide to buy a business as well the move can become even more complicated. People can find themselves working longer hours than they have previously done and earning less money, or moving to a “holiday”destination and missing the good weather and relaxing lifestyle because they work through the whole summer season.
In short, it’s not necessarily the case that there are “Dream Lives for Sale”. However, there could be a simpler way to move abroad, earn good money and live the lifestyle you’ve always wanted.
There are now a growing number of people living the “Laptop Lifestyle”. Basically, this means people who are running a business and enjoying a good quality of living from wherever they want in the world -all from their Laptop.
There are some enormous advantages to running a business this way. A “Laptop”or internet based business doesn’t necessarily need its own office space, it doesn’t need to relate to the country where you want to base your dream life, and you don’t always need to work regular hours to generate your desired earnings. Another bonus is that the set up cost of starting your own business via a laptop or online is that the start up costs are likely to be lower than buying a brick and mortar business in a foreign country, so more money to spend on the beach house with a pool, or the Chalet in the Swiss Alps.
The internet can allow your business to be accessed by potential customers 24 hours, seven days a week, and it doesn’t close for holidays, even if you do. This means that if you set up your business online, from anywhere in the world, then anyone, anywhere else in the world can find you at any time. This is true leverage!
Sounds good, doesn’t it? Well it gets better. The scope of businesses that can be run online, from anywhere is literally growing by the day. You don’t need to be a “computer whizz”or even have any knowledge of programming, or setting up a blog in order to get started.
Here are some examples:
- You could sign up to be a freelance proofreader. The money may not be great at first, but the more you do, the more you can build up your reputation and the better quality of work you will get.
- If you fancy writing but aren’t confident in setting up your own Blog, there are sites that allow you to submit your own articles, which they will publish on their sites, and you will receive money based on the number of readers .
- Do you speak more than 1 language? If so you could sign up to be a freelance translator. Just imagine living on a beach in Thailand and translating articles from Spanish to English for companies or individuals on the other side of the world!
- Affiliate Marketing can be a great option. It means that you sell products from someone else’s company and receive payment for doing it. You have all the benefits of selling a great product from a great company, but without having to manage the stock control, branding, product development or shipment. You literally get credit for sending people to that product. There are thousands of Affiliate and internet marketing schemes, some reward better than others, some are more complex, it all depends on what would suit you as an individual.
- I’ve already mentioned writing blogs for article publishing sites, but there are many other ways to get paid for writing articles or blogs if you don’t mind writing on topics that you’re given rather than ones you’ve chosen. SEO Writing is a great example. SEO firms are always in need of Freelance writers who can write good, short articles on a given keyword to help them get better back links and search engine rankings.
It just goes to show that there really is such a thing as “Dream Lives for Sale”, and if you want to move abroad and have an income without buying a restaurant, or a bed & breakfast then there is a way for anyone to do it!
The internet has any number of Dream Lives for Sale, so what are you waiting for? Pack your laptop and get the flights booked!
